Gaia is technically Portugal’s third-largest city, but its global identity is one street of history: the quay where port wine lodges — Graham’s, Taylor’s, Sandeman — age their barrels, with the whole of old Porto facing across the river. Beyond the postcard it is a long, lived-in city with beaches of its own.

Living in Vila Nova de Gaia

Gaia prices undercut Porto proper for new-build apartments with the same river access — the pragmatic side of the metro pair, connected by the upper bridge on foot in ten minutes.
