Portugal in 14 Days: The Complete Country
Fourteen days add the islands — and with them, the rest of Portugal’s personality: volcanic, subtropical, Atlantic-remote. The structure: mainland loop first, islands second, one internal flight in between.
Days 1–10 — The mainland loop
Run the 10-day itinerary: Lisbon, Sintra, Alentejo, Coimbra, Porto, Douro. Keep day 10 light — you’re flying tomorrow.
Days 11–14 — The islands
- Madeira option: Funchal’s gardens, the Monte toboggan, levada walks to 25 Fontes, Cabo Girão sunset — the comfortable island
- Azores option: São Miguel’s Sete Cidades, Furnas thermal pools, a whale morning — the wild one
- Direct flights: Porto or Lisbon to Funchal (1h40) or Ponta Delgada (2h20)
Two honest notes: islands deserve their own week someday — this is a tasting menu; and book island internal flights early, they fill seasonally. Everything else on this route forgives improvisation.
Scouting a country in two weeks changes the questions.
